This position will oversee the operations of the Centre, manage staff, and ensure children have a safe, happy early learning experience environment. Our client’s organization aims to provide culturally appropriate community childcare. 

As a key member of our client’s team, the Manager will coordinate schedules, manage, create curriculum and make sure the environment promotes optimal child development. They are responsible for ensuring any hazards are dealt with. To ensure continued funding for our client, you must be able to maintain accurate records and reporting for the organization. Experience working with Indigenous people (First Nations, Métis, Inuit) is a MUST as this role supports Indigenous children’s learning through a cultural programming focus.

 QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum ECE Diploma or equivalent education from a college that has been approved in line with Child Care Regulations
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities (First Nation, Métis, Inuit)
  • Good understanding of Indigenous culture and practices
  • 3-5 years of experience in management
  • Valid First Aid and CPR
  • Safe Food Handling Certificate would be an asset
  • A high degree of initiative and dedication
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills in Outlook, Word, & Excel
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Honest, reliable, confident in work & patient with others
  • Current criminal record check, including vulnerable sector check

RESPONSIBILITIES

Operations:

  • Ensure the physical environment is monitored and maintained to meet fire, health and safety standards
  • Ensure centre and children’s records are up to date at all times as per legislation, Nation’s policies and best practices
  • Ensure that all programming and observations for class groups meet Accreditation and Licensing Standards
  • Ensure staff get information and opportunities to acquire knowledge and skills (first aid, fire safety, food safety course, required courses for higher levels of training)
  • Ensure personnel hired have been interviewed and thoroughly screened (police check and vulnerable sector search, references checked, etc.) before they begin working
  • Monitor and manage the menus at the centre ensuring a nutritional menu is provided each day
  • Communicate effectively with parents, other departments and staff
  • Promote quality care and education within the centre and community
  • Oversee children’s wellbeing and development as it relates to ages and stages and developmental needs key support person to parents as it relates to early years

Financial:

  • Assists in the development, administration and monitoring of the approved budget
  • Reviews and monitors expenditures in accordance with budget and/or contracts and ensures that the program works within the allocated resources of the budget
  • Partner with Eden Valley Administrator and Health Director in the development and implementation of an early learning strategic plan, comprehensive business plans, annual objectives, and organizational effectiveness strategies

 

Staff supervision:

  • Provides leadership and management to the staff by supervising, coaching and mentoring
  • Assesses the competencies of staff and identifies strengths and areas for development by creating individual performance plans that identify individual performance goals
  • Encourages and support staff to explore and utilize areas of development as identified in their performance plan
  • Ensures personnel administration is in accordance with regulations, policy, and acts
  • Ensure staff records are kept up to date and remain current (criminal checks and vulnerable sector checks
