Our well established Oil and Gas client is seeking a experienced Cost Specialist in Fort McMurray, AB.

Please note that this position is located in Fort McMurray, AB and local candidates are preferred. Non-local candidates will be considered but must be willing to secure their own accommodations, as there is no camp, LOA, or accommodation allowance provided.

Job Description:

The Cost Specialist is responsible for ensuring that all costs related to the project are properly monitored and controlled. This includes assisting the Project Manager with purchase requisitions and work orders consistent with the Gate 3 classified estimate and project execution plan, ensuring cost coding is correct on all financial transactions, and monitoring, verifying and attesting costs. The Cost Specialist also plays an important role in managing change, in ensuring systems (e.g. STRIPES (SAP system), ALEX (Syncrude Project Controls System)) accurately reflect the current state of the project and in forecasting future performance. Finally, the Cost Specialist provides input into the regular stewardship reporting process.

  • Cost control and estimating data integration
  • Establish and maintain effective interfaces with Procurement / Contracts work processes:
  • Requisition and formation activities, including scope (pay item) and funding identification 
  • Claims, back charges and surplus identification.
  • Chair monthly cost forecast review meeting
  • Prepare monthly cost forecast
  • Prepare monthly design allowance and contingency status
  • Prepare monthly cost report
  • Prepare and maintain incurred cost flow status of project
  • Prepare and maintain effective trends system including presentation to Management of Change (MOC) Committee and impact on cost forecast
  • Establish and maintain cost baseline alignment
  • Attend the monthly construction status meeting
  • Maintain ALEX data integrity:
  • Review data
  • Advertise reporting capabilities.

Education: High School Diploma

Expected Years of Experience:4-6 Years

Skills and Qualifications: Excel skills required
