Job Overview:

The Nurse Practitioner is an integral member of the health care team who will provide and coordinate initial, continuing and comprehensive advanced nursing service to the community of Onion Lake Cree Nation. The spectrum of health services provided encompasses: health promotion and maintenance of wellness, illness and injury prevention, health condition, and health care management of common acute and chronic illnesses, including ordering diagnostic investigations and prescribing treatments including medications. The RN (NP) will collaborate and make referrals to other health care professionals and participate in community development initiatives. The RN (NP) will adhere to the SRNA Registered Nurse (Nurse Practitioner) Standards and Core Competencies. The RN (NP) is responsible and accountable at all times for his/her own practice. Each individual RN (NP) is responsible to maintain his/her own level of competence in their practice which includes but is not limited to mandatory education as required.

  • Demonstrate appropriate decision-making skills and provide safe, competent care.
  • Communicate and collaborate with clients and family members in regard to health findings, diagnosis, treatment options and self-care.
  • Collaborate with other health care professionals and work together in a team approach.
  • Provide empathetic and respectful holistic care to clients and family; home visit to clients, if necessary.
  • Strong communication skills both verbally and written.
  • Ability to adapt to change, show initiative and self-direction.
  • Excellent leadership and organizational skills.
  • Ability to use computers as well as a variety of clinical and diagnostic machines.

Qualifications:

  • Licensed as a Nurse Practitioner with the SRNA and CARNA.
  • Relevant clinical nursing experience.
  • Level C Basic Cardiac Life Support.
  • Current Transportation of Dangerous Goods Course.
  • Oxygen Administration Course.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Valid Driver’s License, Driver’s abstract, Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
