Our well established Oil and Gas client is seeking a Cost Specialist in Fort McMurray, AB.

The successful candidate for this role will demonstrate a high sense of personal accountability and ownership for the execution of their duties.

Job Overview:

The Cost Specialist is responsible for ensuring that all costs related to the project are properly monitored and controlled. This includes assisting the Project Manager with purchase requisitions and work orders consistent with the Gate 3 classified estimate and project execution plan, ensuring cost coding is correct on all financial transactions, and monitoring, verifying and attesting costs. The Cost Specialist also plays an important role in managing change, in ensuring systems (e.g. STRIPES (SAP system), ALEX (Project Controls System) accurately reflect the current state of the project and in forecasting future performance. Finally, the Cost Specialist provides input into the regular stewardship reporting process.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Cost control, forecasting and reporting on the project.
  • Overall project planning / scheduling activities on the project.
  • Developing, maintaining and progressing SGMS and PMCS activities
  • Identifying and documenting schedule trends for action or approval
  • Working with contractors to develop and update their detailed contractor schedules (CS) in accordance with the PMCS schedule and Project Operations requirements for systems.

Accountable for:

  • Monthly reporting · ALEX data integrity, reporting support
  • Project cost status
  • Project cost forecast
  • Cost control and estimating data integration
  • Establish and maintain effective interfaces with Procurement / Contracts work processes:
  • Requisition and formation activities, including scope (pay item) and funding identification
  • Claims, back charges and surplus identification.

Deliverables:

  • Chair monthly cost forecast review meeting
  • Prepare monthly cost forecast
  • Prepare monthly design allowance and contingency status
  • Prepare monthly cost report
  • Prepare and maintain incurred cost flow status of project
  • Prepare and maintain effective trends system including presentation to Management of Change (MOC) Committee and impact on cost forecast
  • Establish and maintain cost baseline alignment
  • Attend the monthly construction status meeting
  • Maintain ALEX data integrity:
  • Review data
  • Advertise reporting capabilities.

Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • High School Diploma is required
  • 4-6 years experience 
  • Able to operate Primavera software
  • CSO Common Safety Orientation (or equivalent) (or must obtain prior to start)
  • If this position is classified as safety risk sensitive, you must also be able to pass pre-access drug & alcohol testing.
  • Successfully pass a criminal background check.
  • Authorized to legally work in Canada (eligible to work in the country for the duration of the assignment.
