Our well established oil & gas client is seeking a Maintenance Engineer (or Technologist) in Vancouver, BC.

  • 40hrs/week, 8 hrs/day (or for FIFO option we can discuss a 4 days/week,10 hrs/day schedule)
  • Local person in Vancouver
  • Fly-in / fly-out from Calgary to Vancouver (to be on-site in Vancouver M-Th every week)
  • Plus LOA for the travel
  • Is travel required? It depends on if the person will be based in Calgary or based in Vancouver. 
  • FIFO from Calgary to Vancouver would be required, per above.  If based local in Vancouver then no travel would be required other than to site at the Burrard terminal

Job Overview:

The Maintenance Engineer (Technologist) will collaborate with Terminal Operations to provide technical support for equipment and identify reliability improvement opportunities to increase availability and utilization of Distribution assets.  This will include: asset performance troubleshooting, sparing strategy development, quality investigations on equipment failures and loss of containment incidents, completion of corrective action, supporting the maintenance work process through work scope development, and trending and course correction of reliability performance indicators.  The Maintenance Engineer (Technologist) will be required to support multiple terminals and is a key contributor to the Cross Functional Team and regional distribution terminal network.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Support terminal supervisor to perform risk assessments and recommend short term solutions and long term plans for mitigation.
  • Work the CFT to identify, evaluate and implement reliability improvement opportunities through changes to operating procedures, maintenance procedures and equipment upgrades
  • Lead reliability incident evaluations and improvement opportunities, including identification of root cause (RCA)
  • Responsible for Operational, Maintenance and Technical input to the operations of the facility, maintenance of the assets and consult with the CFT on design of new systems and infrastructure
  • Assess the effectiveness of existing asset maintenance strategies and provide recommendations for improvement, where necessary.
  • Assess the effectiveness and quality of maintenance program work, capture and analyze performance trends and provide recommendations for improvement, where necessary.
  • Recommend maintenance & operating technologies and methodologies that eliminate unsafe working conditions and environmental excursions
  • Provide reliability input into the terminal maintenance budget
  • Identify and develop multi-year programs (major overhaul, regulatory inspections, reliability improvement opportunities, etc.)
  • Champion life cycle cost analysis use for equipment selection, maintenance and investment decisions
  • Support major projects to ensure proper turnover and integration into existing reliability programs
  • Share reliability incident learnings with cross function team and reliability specialist peers
  • Lead MOCs for changes related to imminent or actual breakdown of assets

Required Qualifications, Experience, Education, Skills and Knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma from an accredited University or College
  • Minimum 10 years of technical experience in Oil and Gas Industry or Refinery
  • Ability to work well with the maintenance execution team and Operations providing technically sound, clear and succinct solutions to equipment issues and repairs that arise.
  • Background and knowledge on troubleshooting and advising on repairs of various types of equipment, especially tanks, piping, pumps and Vapour Recovery Units (VRU’s)
  • Preference for candidates with past experience
  • Knowledge of Maintenance and Reliability practices
  • Familiar with Root Cause Analysis investigations
  • Working knowledge of Distribution operations and industry oil movement process
  • Be familiar with required pipeline and refinery codes and standards as well as best practices
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Bilingual communication is required for Quebec-based roles
