Our well established Oil and Gas client is seeking an experienced and driven Sr. Mechanical Engineer to provide support to our Mechanical Division in Fort McMurray, AB.

The successful candidate for this role will demonstrate a high sense of personal accountability and ownership for the execution of their duties.

Please note that this position is located in Fort McMurray, AB and local candidates are preferred. Non-local candidates will be considered but must be willing to secure their own accommodations, as there is no camp, LOA, or accommodation allowance provided.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Maintain & improve safety/reliability on all Static equipment classes (I.e. Boilers, piping, tanks, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, furnaces, ducts, expansion joints, etc.)
  • Manage the resolution of key technical issues and working interfaces between Engineering Contractor technical staff and key stakeholders (Operations, Safety Codes Officers, Specification Owners, Strategy Center Technical Experts, etc.)
  • Provide technical oversight and engineering quality assurance on technical work being performed by the Engineering Contractor
  • Provide clear and concise updates on safety and reliability on all static equipment classes  


Experience and Education:

  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering required
  • APEGA Registration and Professional Engineering Designation
  • Minimum of 11-15 years experience required
  • Experience in Oils Sands Mining and Upgrader Operations, considered an asset
  • CSO Common Safety Orientation (or equivalent) (or must obtain prior to start)
  • If this position is classified as safety risk sensitive, you must also be able to pass pre-access drug & alcohol testing.
  • Successfully pass a criminal background check.
  • Authorized to legally work in Canada (eligible to work in the country for the duration of the assignment.

  • Ability to work in a multi-discipline team environment (engineering and other)
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Provides innovative solutions to problems

Required Safety training / equipment (if applicable)

  • Mask Fit (Includes 3M 1/2 Full) 
  • Confined & Restricted Space Entry (OSSA)
  • Safe Work Permits
  • Non-Powered air purified respirator training
  • Driving on Site
