Main Functions

The role primarily focuses on ensuring that all Civil, Water, Tailings and Infrastructure Projects are incorporated into key Mid-Range Mine Planning deliverables and then communicating to the site team for execution.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

Our client is currently looking for a Senior Mining Engineer to support the Kearl Asset as part of the Mid-Range Mine Planning and Performance Team. The position of “Infrastructure & Water Integration Engineer“ will be based in the Calgary office working a Mon-Fri schedule, requiring fly in – fly out site visits as per business needs.

The role primarily focuses on ensuring that all Civil, Water, Tailings and Infrastructure Projects are incorporated into key Mid-Range Mine Planning deliverables and then communicating to the site team for execution. Acting as the central point for multiple departments; the position will be dynamic and iterative, requiring problem solving skills, the ability to prioritize and frequent optimization. As a Senior Engineer duties will also include the oversight and mentoring of Engineers in Training (EIT).

Other accountabilities involve continuous improvement to current work practices and ensuring alignment across functions through appropriate change management and communication processes. As well as producing high standard technical deliverables and providing recommendations in various functions across the organization.

A successful candidate will have strong communication, collaboration and project management skills; supported by a comprehensive knowledge of open pit mining operations and planning. Understanding of dewatering, tailings and reclamation practices are an asset.

Skills and Qualifications:

Academic: Bachelor Degree in Mining Engineering or related fields

Other:

  • Minimum of 7-10 years surface mine experience is required, including but not limited to; mine operations support and execution planning, mine scheduling, civil projects, dewatering, tailings and reclamation.
  • Previous field experience in active mine operations is required.
  • Must demonstrate the ability work in multidiscipline teams crossing various functions
  • Must be able to communicate effectively, interact and influence without authority through all levels of an organization including technical functions, operational personnel and contractors
  • Strong organizational skills, practical problem-solving skills and continuous improvement through critical thinking
  • Self-motivated and able to function at a high performing level with minimal oversight in both office environment and active mining environments
  • Must demonstrate safety leadership
  • Must demonstrate a passion and the ability to lead, train and mentor others
  • Must be willing to travel to the mine site as required
  • Ability to use or learn AutoCAD, Deswik, Surpac or other planning software
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
