Our well established Oil and Gas client is seeking an experienced Process Operator in Fort McMurray, AB.

Please note that this position is located in Fort McMurray, AB and local candidates are preferred. Non-local candidates will be considered but must be willing to secure their own accommodations, as there is no camp, LOA, or accommodation allowance provided.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for own safety and the safety of all personnel working in the area - Process, Maintenance, Technical.
  • Responsible for the safe, controlled, efficient operation of assigned process units:
  • Ensure that quality products or intermediate streams leaving assigned units meet defined specifications.
  • Operate at target rates consistent with Run Plan
  • Prevent equipment damage by operating in the Operating Envelope, providing quality unit monitoring and effective response to Abnormal Operations.
  • Respond to KEVs and minimize Break-ins to the Maintenance schedule.
  • Accountable for maintaining knowledge and experience required for post certification as assigned, including completion of mandatory training modules and re-certification at the prescribed frequency.
  • Responsible for following applicable business controls.
  • Attend Safety Meeting and perform LPS duties as defined
  • Execute all OIMS work processes consent with site procedures/ standards: Work Permits, Control of Defeat, Operating Procedures, Emergency Response, etc
  • Keep unit housekeeping in order to enable effective monitoring and mitigate hazards
  • Participate in Unit Simulations and Site Simulations to ensure proper response to emergency situations such as fire, explosion, toxic release, evacuation of personnel and medical emergency
  • Participate cooperatively in incident investigations and risk assessments

JOB DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE STANDARD SSHE:

  • Attend Safety Meeting and perform LPS duties as defined
  • Execute all OIMS work processes consent with site procedures/ standards: Work Permits, Control of Defeat,
  • Operating Procedures, Emergency Response, etc
  • Keep unit housekeeping in order to enable effective monitoring and mitigate hazards
  • Participate in Unit Simulations and Site Simulations to ensure proper response to emergency situations such as fire,
  • explosion, toxic release, evacuation of personnel and medical emergency
  • Participate cooperatively in incident investigations and risk assessments

Daily Operation/Reliability:

  • Shift Handover - Perform Shift Handover consistent with the site Shift Handover Standard (SSS-215).
  • Communicate unit and area status to shift relief. Complete documentation required in Shift Report.
  • Shift Team Meeting - Read and ensure understanding of Daily Orders. Execute all orders and requests or report deviations.
  • Communicate critical items to Sr. Coordinator Operator and share information of general interest with team members
  • Inspect, monitor and adjust field equipment to ensure safe, reliable performance
  • Perform surveillance round (including routine checks, sampling, testing and monitoring) at beginning of shift.
  • Perform scheduled IntelaTrac rounds.
  • Controls emissions to the environment at their source through safety valve checks, exchanger monitoring, sewer checks, etc. defined in IntelaTrac round.
  • Maintain process equipment through application of preventative maintenance and trouble-shooting (e.g. minor repairs, lubrication, performance monitoring and reporting).
  • Identify deviations from standard. Take prompt action to address or initiate action from others so that the issues can be managed efficiently and effectively (e.g. write work orders for Maintenance action; work through supervisor to get assistance from Technical, Engineering, etc. as needed)
  • Monitor and adjust unit process variables to ensure safe, reliable, on test performance
  • Do not exceed Tier 1 Operating Limits, so that all established safety, health and environmental standards are met.
  • Maintain unit parameters within Tier 2 and 3 Operating Envelopes to protect reliability - Respond to alarms/alerts to address the deviation and get back in the OE
  • Abnormal Operation/Emergency - Actively participate in simulations to strengthen readiness to respond to upset conditions
  • Non-Routine Operations - Identify deviations from standard unit operation and inform Sr. Coordinator Operator of need to reviews to ensure sufficient management of risk

Optimization:

  • Optimize unit performance within defined Operating Envelopes in order to maximize profitability
  • Review product scheduling plan and operating recommendations at beginning of shift; Ensure all Orders are executed or deviations reported
  • Monitor KEVs at least once per shift and make necessary adjustments
  • Assists technical staff with technical monitoring programs and unit optimization, as necessary.

Maintenance:

  • Prepare maintenance work orders that provide the information necessary for Mechanical to effectively troubleshoot and plan the required work.
  • Isolate and prepare equipment for Mechanical personnel consistent with defined schedule and Unit Orders
  • Prepare and issue safe work permits and ensure associated equipment preparation and field testing is conducted consistent with Site Safety Standards and unit procedures. Ensure proper permit completion and sign-off.
  • Prepare permits promptly to support efficient maintenance execution

General:

  • Keeps abreast of relevant plant communications through meeting minutes, on-line tools, e-mail, etc.
  • Participates in development and review of operating procedures and training of unit personnel; understanding what the safe operating parameters are for the unit & equipment.
  • Executes general maintenance, technical and self-managing / team activities as per relevant flex agreements.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: GUIDANCE, CLOSE OR GENERAL SUPERVISION, DIRECTION

  • Technicians receive direction from Senior Coordinating Operator
  • Shift Team (Senior Coordinating Operator and Technicians) receive direction from Business Team through Shift
  • Supervisor and/or Day Superintendent

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: ADVISES, DIRECTS, SUPERVISES; NUMBER OF DIRECT SUBORDINATES

  • Provides clearance to mechanical crews (company and contract) to perform work in their area

QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SPECIAL SKILLS:

  • Chemical Production Engineering Technology (CPET) diploma or equivalent combination of formal
  • education and directly relevant industry experience in the judgment of management.
  • 4th Class or higher Operating Engineer certificate (unless waived by management).
  • Many units also require a valid Class G driver¹s license and satisfactory driving record in the judgment of management.
  • Able to meet the essential physical demands of the position with reasonable accommodation, as per job demands analysis (JDA).
  • Upon Completion of Mandatory Wage Progression* (max. 72 months)
  • Successful completion of all wage progression requirements within the allotted time periods (varies with amount of initial progression credit granted), including certification on operating posts and OI - mandated training modules.
  • Continued ability to meet essential physical requirements of the position with reasonable accommodation as per job
  • Demands analysis (JDA). Must be able to respond effectively in stress conditions such as unit upsets or operating emergencies.

  • Equipment condition and performance monitoring, work order system, work permit system, equipment isolation & preparation, and any other activities / interfaces required for safe and efficient execution of plant maintenance & reliability functions;
  • Product quality assurance and other unit performance measurement and management systems, including associated business controls.
