Recreation Facility Manager

Our client is seeking a permanent Facility Manager to work in a community west of Calgary. 

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Emergency Services, the Arena Manager is responsible for the planning, organization and supervision of the Indoor Ice Arena facility and related programs.

Responsibilities:

Operations

  • Develop and promote a broad spectrum of diverse activities and services for all groups, ages and interest levels of Ice Arena participants
  • Administer and coordinate ice skating programs, summer camps and special events
  • Monitor & maintain the facility and equipment and make recommendations for minor and major upkeep, repairs , renovations and improvements
  • Prepare monthly reports and periodic and special reports when needed
  • Approve and oversee facility use requests
  • Promote, organize and stimulate good relationships with community and outside communities
  • Look for outside funding opportunities by preparing/writing proposal and grants

Budget

  • Assists in the development, administration and monitoring of the approved budget
  • Reviews and monitors expenditures in accordance to budget and/or contracts and ensures that the program works within the allocated resources of the budget

Business and Operational Planning

  • Partner with Director of Operations and Director of Emergency Services on development and implementation of comprehensive business plans, annual objective and organizational effectiveness strategies

Staff Supervision

  • Manages a multi-disciplinary team environment
  • Provides leadership and management to the staff by supervising, coaching and mentoring
  • Assesses the competencies of staff and identifies strengths and areas for development by creating individual performance plans that identifies individual performance goals
  • Encourages and support staff to explore and utilize areas of development as identified in their performance plan
  • Ensures personnel administration is in accordance regulations, policy, and acts

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS in Parks and Recreation, Sports Management, Facility Management or related field preferred
  • Certified Park and Recreation Professional preferred.
  • Experience in Ice Arena facility preferred.
  • Minimum five years of responsible managerial or supervisory experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and objectives of facility management and recreation administration
  • Knowledge of the principles of sound financial management.
  • Knowledge and ability to plan, organize and supervise creative and extensive ice skating programs and activities
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
